The Design
The Ask:
RoofCrafters found that users wanted to know how much a roof replacement on their home will cost. This was a top question asked during the sales process. Customers said they were initially hesitant to reach out and talk to someone because they felt like it was a big commitment. In order to self qualify, users wanted transparency and an estimate.
The Approach:
Step #1: Lay the Groundwork
We worked with RoofCrafters to curate a list of common influences to pricing and common questions or customizations users typically have. Once we identified these, we considered the order in which users should be asked questions. We commonly asked RoofCrafters "are any of these dependent on the other questions?" and "which seem like a pressing question the users are eager to input?"
Step #2: Get the Math Right
Then we worked with RoofCrafters and our development team to create a speadsheet that entailed complex math to get an accurate estimate.
Step #3: Outline the User Experience
At this stage we created a wireframe layout of the tool with questions and potential answers a user could input. We also brainstormed what additional information could help user make decisions/choices right for them. For instance, showing an image of a type of material can help a user find their preferred taste.
Step #4: Design the User Interface
This is when the tool visually comes to life. The grey-scale wireframe start to include RoofCrafters branding and showcases how we plan to provide additional information with tooltips, various screens, and input fields.
Step #5: Build, QA, and Launch
The development team then is guided by the design to make the tool function live. After some QA internally and externally, the tool launched with success.
The Results:
By providing this tool to users, they get answers to their most pressing question: "but, what does it cost me?" They pre-qualify themeselves as they make selections and decide if they are a good fit. This ulitmately saved time for the sales team, provided quality inquiries, and led to happy users who thanked RoofCrafters for price transparency.
